Enrique Thompson is an Argentinian-Italian saxophonist, pianist, composer and improvisation artist. He has performed in and led various music groups such as orchestras, chamber music, jazz groups, blues, rock, Latin American music, tango, saxophone quartet, african, electronic and experimental music. He has also performed and composed music for films, theatre pieces and multidisciplinary projects in Latin America and Europe.
He has studied classical saxophone in La Plata’s Conservatory as well as composition in La Plata National University in Argentina. He has taken popular music, jazz and improvisation courses and private lessons with nationally and internationally renowned musicians such as Michael Brecker (USA), Bob Mintzer (USA), Carlos “Mono” Fontana (Argentina), Paquito D’Rivera (Cuba/USA), Carlos Michelini (Argentina), Carlos Lastra (Argentina), Anibal Arias (Argentina).
Convinced that art and life are a part of the same entity, he has complemented his studies with diverse activities which have influenced and broadened his artistic creations, such as philosophy, psychology, languages, history and politics. Presently he lives in Vienna, Austria. He plays and composes for Traspié Electro Tango, Revirado Project, TM Group, Tango meets Jazz among others. He also performs as guest and sidesman with different musical groups all around Europe and was invited by the Saxophonist Paquito D’Rivera to perform closing the Punta del Este International Jazz Fest. He co-founded the organization Artruism, an association for promotion and support of artistic and cultural production, and the label ARTRUISM RECORDS in Vienna, Austria.
